About — The William

A 33-suite, all-suite boutique hotel set in two interconnected 1920s Beaux Arts brownstones in Midtown East, where each suite functions as a living work of art and the whole property reads as a livable gallery. At its core: New York's cultural energy, made residential and intimate.

We're all-suite, not rooms, so you get space, a kitchenette, and a residential feel rather than a standard hotel box. The design is the real differentiator: every one of the 33 suites was done as an individual piece with Chelsea artist William Engel, so nothing repeats. We're small and intimate in a part of Midtown that's mostly large business hotels, and we lean into art and neighborhood character instead of trying to compete on size or amenities. The honest trade-off is that if you want a big gym, a concierge desk, and three restaurants downstairs, we're not that. If you want somewhere with personality a few minutes from Grand Central, we are.

A few archetypes: the design and art-minded traveller who books for the rooms, not the brand; the culturally curious international visitor wanting "real" New York rather than a chain experience; the extended-stay professional who values a kitchenette and residential feel near Grand Central; and the weekend couple after something intimate and characterful within walking distance of Bryant Park

Artful, residential, intimate. Vibrant color against bold monochrome, brownstone heritage meeting contemporary furnishing, gallery-quiet but city-charged. Craft cocktails after dark, insider tips over coffee, the hush of a small property in a loud neighborhood.

The building's past is central to its identity: the two Beaux Arts brownstones were a private social club for Williams College liberal arts graduates in the 1920s, which gives the hotel both its name and a built-in thread of intellect, craft, and community. Namron took over the former Sonder site and renovated it, reframing a transactional space into something personal. The design choices, vibrant colors and bold monochromatic palettes merging art, architecture, and interior design, turn the hotel into a canvas for self-expression and channel the great stories of Manhattan. Namron itself, founded by Yves Naman with flagship brand La Valise (a Small Luxury Hotels of the World member), brings a track record of design-led, locally rooted properties.
